A report from the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield described Taiwan as a key partner in building strategies to protect information integrity and uphold democratic values. The report praised Taiwan’s efforts in addressing China’s increasing gray-zone tactics through civil defense and resilience exercises, suggesting that its comprehensive societal approach offers valuable insights for the European Union as it develops its own preparedness measures.
Furthermore, the European Parliament acknowledged Taiwan’s significant contributions to high-tech development and its adept handling of hybrid attacks and foreign information manipulation. The report advocated for stronger cooperation and regular exchanges between the EU and like-minded nations in East Asia, including Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea. These partnerships are seen as crucial, especially in areas such as countering information manipulation and safeguarding undersea communication cables.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) expressed appreciation for the European Parliament’s recognition and reiterated its commitment to enhancing collaboration with the EU and other partners. MOFA emphasized Taiwan’s dedication to addressing hybrid threats and promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
