Typhoon Champi is causing significant travel disruptions across Taiwan as it approaches the island, leading to the cancellation of 977 flights and the suspension of 96 ferry services. The travel chaos is affecting both aviation and maritime networks, with the cancellations impacting numerous domestic, international, and cross-strait routes.
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport has been hit particularly hard, with 596 flights cancelled between midnight and 9 a.m. This includes 521 passenger flights and 75 cargo flights. Airlines such as EVA Air and Starlux Airlines have adjusted their schedules in response to the severe weather conditions. EVA Air has cancelled all scheduled long-haul flights between Taiwan and Europe or the United States, and has also modified services through Taoyuan and Taipei Songshan airports. Starlux Airlines is operating only selected long-haul flights to Europe, the United States, and other destinations.
Passengers are advised to check flight schedules before heading to the airport, as delays and rescheduling are likely due to the ongoing weather conditions. The impact of Typhoon Champi extends to maritime transport as well, with nine ferry routes completely suspended. These include services connecting Keelung and Matsu, routes between Taiwan and nearby Chinese coastal ports, and domestic routes linking various locations such as Kaohsiung, Magong, Donggang, Xiaoliuqiu, Green Island, and Lanyu.
The Kinmen-Wutong ferry route is operating a reduced schedule, with 10 sailings proceeding while 14 have been cancelled. Authorities are urging travelers to stay informed through official updates as Typhoon Champi continues to affect travel plans across the region.
