In a move to bolster economic ties, Taiwan and the U.S. state of Kansas have formalized a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance trade and cooperation across various sectors. The agreement, signed at the Kansas State Capitol, aims to foster collaboration in industries such as aerospace, aviation, biotechnology, animal health, precision agriculture, and advanced air mobility. Debby Huang, Director-General of Taiwan’s representative office in Denver, and Kansas Lieutenant Governor David Toland officiated the signing, underscoring their shared commitment to developing mutually beneficial partnerships and expanding commercial opportunities.
The groundwork for this partnership has been laid through previous visits by Kansas officials to Taiwan, where discussions centered on investment, advanced technology, education, and talent development. The newly signed MOU is anticipated to provide a structured framework for further collaboration between businesses and institutions from both regions, enhancing economic engagement.
In addition to economic collaboration, the University of North Georgia has announced its plans to establish a Taiwan studies center. This initiative is designed to intensify academic cooperation between Taiwan and the United States, focusing on international relations, defense education, and Indo-Pacific security. The center aims to facilitate research, policy discussions, and educational exchanges, strengthening academic ties.
Taiwanese representatives have highlighted the importance of maintaining stability across the Taiwan Strait, given Taiwan’s critical role in global semiconductor and advanced technology supply chains. This stability is seen as essential for the ongoing development and security of these sectors.
Looking ahead, Taiwan and its international partners are preparing for upcoming activities under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF). These activities will cover topics such as maritime security, disaster preparedness, supply chain resilience, and artificial intelligence, reflecting a broader effort to deepen Taiwan’s economic, educational, and strategic relationships with the United States and other global partners.
