China’s trade sector has demonstrated remarkable growth in the first eight months of the current year. The combined value of imports and exports of goods reached an impressive 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion, representing a 17.6% increase compared to the same period last year. This uptick underscores the resilience and dynamism of China’s trade activities amid a challenging global economic environment.
Focusing on exports, they witnessed a substantial rise of 14.6%, culminating in a total of 20.17 trillion yuan. Meanwhile, imports surged even more, climbing 22% to 14.61 trillion yuan. These figures indicate a robust two-way trade flow, with the import sector gaining particular momentum.
The growth trajectory of China’s trade sector further accelerated in August. During this month, the total value of goods imported and exported rose by 19.8% year-on-year, amounting to 4.65 trillion yuan. Notably, exports during August saw an 18.6% increase, while imports experienced a 21.7% rise, reinforcing the trend of strong trade performance.
Over the past four months, both exports and imports have consistently recorded double-digit year-on-year growth. Interestingly, import growth has outpaced export growth for the last six months, highlighting a shift in trade dynamics where domestic demand could be playing a more significant role in driving economic activity.
